Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then found many other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state initial examinations show the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to its source; officials are currently not informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.
City officials announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative said the incident rendered him without words and needed to be solved quickly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
